Three players have been urged by Alan Smith to leave from Arsenal this summer “for the good of their careers.”
Arsenal is trying to generate more money for summer recruits by working on a number of outgoings, even as they want to improve Mikel Arteta’s team after two consecutive Premier League championship aspirations.
Aaron Ramsdale ought to be one of the three first-team players cut before the new campaign begins, according to Smith, who spent eight years in north London and scored over 100 goals for the Gunners.
After David Raya overtook Ramsdale as Arteta’s top player, Ramsdale has been strongly linked to a departure from Arsenal. Ramsdale is now with England’s Euro 2024 team in Germany.
Newcastle United contacted Arsenal about a move for him, but they believed his £30 million worth was too high.
Smith feels that Eddie Nketiah, a striker who only played 10 Premier League games last season, and Ramsdale are both too excellent to spend another season on the bench.
Nketiah is apparently interested in joining with at least four English teams, with Arsenal’s London rivals Fulham reportedly prepared to pay £30 million to get him for Craven Cottage.
Reiss Nelson, an academy product of Arsenal, reportedly told the Gunners he is willing to leave during the summer transfer window.
Smith believes Nelson likewise “needs to be playing regularly.” Smith told LordPing, “I believe that a number of Arsenal players need to move on for the sake of their careers.”
“Aaron Ramsdale does not want to spend the entire season on the bench, does he?” He recently stated as much in an interview.
“Ramsdale is good enough to be someone’s first-choice Premier League spot; whether that person is a top four club or not is another story.”
Before this season, Eddie Nketiah would frequently receive 20 minutes; but, since Kai Havertz joined the team, that hasn’t been the case.
I do think well of him, so it’s unfortunate for him. He’s a terrific finisher who has climbed through the ranks, but with so little game experience, I’m sure he’ll want to start stepping it up soon.
Reiss Nelson finds herself in a like circumstance. He should now be playing on a regular basis. Arsenal views this as a benefit as, as far as the financial restrictions are concerned, these young players who come through the academy are able to charge high fees that are considered pure profit.
Chelsea is attempting to do that in order to balance all of their inflows. Trevoh Chalobah and Connor Gallagher are the players that are allegedly amenable to leaving.
Gallagher in particular would be sold, and Chelsea would be affected far more than Arsenal would if Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah were transferred.
“Arsenal has spent a lot of money in the last few window, so in order to invest as much as they would like to, they would need to sell.”
On August 17, Arsenal, who is currently on a preseason tour in America, will play Wolves to begin the 2024–25 Premier League season.
