Raphael Varane, a former Manchester United player, is a target for Cesc Fabregas.
At the end of the previous season, the seasoned defender took the unexpected choice to leave the Premier League’s biggest teams.
Despite never quite regaining the form he showed for 10 years as the focal point of Real Madrid’s defense, Varane’s three years at Old Trafford ended on a positive one for him.
In the FA Cup final triumph against Manchester City last month, the 31-year-old had a brilliant performance in which he almost eliminated Erling Haaland’s danger.
Varane had previously announced that he would be leaving as a free agent before to his last game for United.
“To you guys, Manchester United supporters,” he added. It’s been an incredible few years to wear that shirt and play for this unique club. As a Manchester United player, my first visit to Old Trafford was incredible; the atmosphere was incredible.
“I fell in love—both with the club and the supporters.” To truly comprehend what that means, one must be a player for Manchester United. This is where my kids call home. It will always hold a particular place in my heart.
‘When the fans go to Wembley it’s something they remember for life. To share that moment with them [winning the Carabao Cup] was absolutely amazing.
‘Despite the fact we had a difficult season, I’m very positive for the future. The new owners are coming with a clear plan and a great strategy. I’ll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last game at home this season and it’s going to be a very emotional day for me, for sure.’
Varane is yet to make a decision on his next club, but has a host of admirers both in Europe and further afield with Saudi Pro League clubs keen to snap him up.
Fabregas, meanwhile, has other ideas as he plots how to enhance the Como side which earned promotion to Serie A last season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Fabregas views Varane as his ‘dream’ signing but enticing the former World Cup winner will be no straightforward task.
Along with his plans to raid Chelsea, one of his previous teams, Fabregas is eager to take young player Alfie Gilchrist on loan after he had such a promising debut for the main team last season.
