Anthony Gordon, an England winger, suffered minor injuries to his hands and chin from a bike accident just before his team’s Euro 2024 match against Slovakia in the round of 16.

The Newcastle United player sustained cuts after falling off his bike on Thursday while cycling around their training camp with other members of the England group.

Though he sustained a terrible cut on his chin during England’s training later that afternoon, Gordon’s dignity was most severely damaged, since he was not deemed an injury doubt for Sunday’s knockout stage match.

Though he sustained a terrible cut on his chin during England’s training later that afternoon, Gordon’s dignity was most severely damaged, since he was not deemed an injury doubt for Sunday’s knockout stage match.

Marc Guehi, a defender for Crystal Palace, addressed the media this afternoon, providing a positive update on his teammate, who has now become the subject of some jokes within the Three Lions camp.

“He fell off his bike! The boys went out on a bike ride,” he said. “I actually wasn’t there. I heard about it and I was actually talking to him, but not paying attention to him.

Then he turned around and I saw that massive gash on his chin. But he’s okay, he’s okay, but he just fell off his bike. It’s been a bit of a joke in camp but he’s doing well.”

Gordon had a late cameo off the bench in the goalless draw against Slovenia on Tuesday, coming in with only minutes of the contest remaining for his first appearance of the campaign.

In his short time on the field, the former Everton star made an impression, and he is currently one of the players competing for a starting position during the competition’s knockout round.

Phil Foden is not among the group as England get ready for the match on Sunday at their training camp in Blankenhain. Foden went to England on Wednesday to give birth to his third child.

Kieran Trippier and Declan Rice were also not among the squad, working on individual training programmes away from the group.

Gareth Southgate has used Trippier as his first choice at left back as Luke Shaw is still recovering from injury. Rice has participated in every minute of England’s Euro campaign in Germany.

In the eighty-fourth minute of Tuesday’s final group match against Slovenia, the Newcastle player—who had been dealing with a calf issue during the competition—was replaced.

Notwithstanding his lack of football action since February, Luke Shaw has indicated he will be ready to start on Sunday against Gelsenkirchen.
