Mason Greenwood trained in Manchester alongside former Manchester United colleague Shola Shoretire in preparation ahead of his next move.
The 22-year-old just spent the season on loan at Getafe, and United are now eager to offload him before the summer transfer window closes.
Greenwood has not played for United since being arrested in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, controlling conduct, and violence.
Greenwood’s charges were withdrawn in February 2023, and United explored reintroducing him into Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad before facing widespread criticism for his probable comeback.
Greenwood impressed during his loan spell at Getafe, scoring eight goals and registering six assists in La Liga last season and was named as the Spanish club’s Player of the Season.
Speaking in May, Getafe president Angel Torres made it clear that he was keen for Greenwood to extend his stay with the Madrid-based club.
‘If it depends on the boy and the parents,’ Torres told Radio Marca. ‘I think he would continue another year here.
‘But Manchester United’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, so we will have to wait. But I hope he is going to stay.’
The forward is now preparing for the new season and took part in a private session in Manchester with Shoretire, whose contract with United expired last month.
Alongside his father, who serves as his agent, Greenwood was spotted arriving for training while sporting a limited-edition pair of Virgil Abloh Nike Vapor football boots and a Jamaican national shirt.
The players for United are scheduled to return for preseason workouts on Monday, but it’s expected that Greenwood will get additional time off as the team works on his move.
Lazio had already made an offer to sign Greenwood for €20 million (£16.9 million) and a 50% sell-on option, but United turned it down because they wanted to pay more like £40 million.
Marseille has also expressed interest, and last week there were rumors in Italy suggesting that the Ligue 1 team was almost certain to conclude a deal with United.
