Crysencio Summerville, a standout player for Leeds United, may be available to Chelsea for nearly half as much as initially anticipated, according to sources.

Leeds is in grave danger of losing some of its greatest players following their shocking Championship season exit from the Premier League.

With 90 points at the end of the regular 2023–24 Championship season, they set a record for the most points ever earned by a club that did not automatically advance from the division.

Many teams are trying to take advantage of Leeds’ collapse, and in May it was believed Chelsea was considering a £30 million bid for Summerville, a Dutch winger.

In 43 Championship games last season, the 22-year-old scored 19 goals and provided nine assists, earning him the title of second-tier Player of the Season.

Leeds’ biggest star now looks set for a step up to the top-flight and according to new reports from Foot Mercato, Chelsea might be able to snap him up more cheaply than they previously anticipated.

They claim that Summerville is actually more likely to cost around €20m – which would be around £16.8m – almost halving his previous reported price of £30m.

After struggling financially, the Blues are now ready to add some starters of their own, and a cheap acquisition of Summerville could now take precedence.

Chelsea has considerable leeway thanks to their choice to sell Ian Maatsen, Michael Golding, and Jamie Cumming. With the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline having passed, they now have an entire year to reconcile their accounts.

The story is completely different for Leeds, who have become easy prey after losing the Championship play-off final to Southampton.

Summerville could well become the latest high-profile exit, who has been labelled ‘outstanding’ by his manager Daniel Farke.

‘He’s an outstanding creative player,’ Leeds boss Farke said about Summerville last season. ‘We know this, but also how hard he works for the team. This is exactly what we need and many compliments to him.’

Other elite teams, such as Liverpool, Newcastle, and Aston Villa, are also keeping an eye on the Dutchman in addition to Chelsea.
