Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has already praised Manchester United‘s latest signing, Leny Yoro.
On Thursday, the young defender completed a £58 million transfer to Old Trafford after turning down Real Madrid’s interest in joining the Premier League team.
Yoro, 18, is regarded as one of Europe’s most gifted prospects, having previously received interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool before joining United.
The ex-Lille defender, who was nominated to the Ligue 1 squad of the season for 2023-24, has signed a five-year deal with Manchester United, with an option for another 12 months.
Yoro, who is just 17 years old, made his debut in September of his first year with the France U21 team, working with the legendary Henry of the Premier League.
In March, Henry talked on Yoro‘s potential and remarked, “We often talk about Leny.” His career is off to an excellent start.
To establish himself as he is in Lille He reacts young most of the time, and that’s just natural. It happens gradually, you make errors, and occasionally you feel ashamed.
“[But] he continues to play, starting and performing well in a lot of matches.” It is quite beneficial to him. He is well-educated, a kind man, and a professional. “I enjoy him.” He does a good job.
There are always things to polish after, but that’s totally understandable. To be honest, the improvement is more than favorable.
Yoro follows Joshua Zirkzee, who just left Bologna to join the Red Devils, as the second summer addition to Manchester United.
“Leny is among the most promising young defenders in the world of football; he has all the necessary skills to become a world-class center-back,” stated Dan Ashworth, the sports director at United.
Yoro, meanwhile, said of his move to Old Trafford: ‘Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour.
‘Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.
‘I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new team-mates. I cannot wait to get started.’
Yoro will hope to start alongside Lisandro Martinez next season after Raphael Varane left Manchester United at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
