According to rumors, Manchester City would seek at least £60 million before add-ons for Julian Alvarez.
The 24-year-old spent two seasons at City, scoring 19 goals as Pep Guardiola‘s team won the Premier League for the fourth time in a row.
Alvarez appeared 54 times in all competitions and was City’s eighth-highest outfield player in terms of minutes played this season.
However, according to The Athletic, the Argentina international wants more playing time at City and plans to depart during the summer transfer window.
The report claims that City would not stand in Alvarez’s way but are demanding a £60m transfer fee, plus a further £17m in add-ons.
It’s also claimed that Alvarez and his family would prefer to live in a warmer climate than Manchester.
Atletico Madrid have been pushing to sign Alvarez this summer but are unwilling to meet City’s asking price.
Alvarez may also have an option to remain in the Premier League as reports in Argentina claimed last month that Chelsea were considering a move.
Arsenal have also been linked with Alvarez as Mikel Arteta is keen to add a versatile attacking player to his squad after they finish second behind City in the Premier League last season.
Alvarez made five appearances for Argentina in their successful Copa America campaign this summer and is now representing the national side at the Olympics in Paris.
He will be granted an extended break and is set to miss the start of the newseason with City, who play Manchester United in the Community Shield on August 10 before travelling to Chelsea for their Premier League opener on August 18.
When asked about his situation at City last month, Alvarez told ESPN: ‘A lot is being said about my future but I’m calm.
‘I’m comfortable and happy at Manchester City. We’ll see what happens.’
