Sam Morsy, the captain of Ipswich Town, has agreed to a new deal with the team that will last until 2026.

After moving from Middlesbrough to the Tractor Boys in 2021, the midfielder has made 131 appearances for the team and scored 10 goals.

Soon after moving to the northeast of England, Morsy was voted club captain. Over the last two seasons, he has assisted Kieran McKenna’s team in winning back-to-back promotions.

“I’m going into my fourth season at the club now and we’ve had unprecedented success during the last two years, which is something I’m honoured to have been involved in,” Morsy added.

“It’s great to feel the club and the manager’s commitment to me at such an exciting time for everyone, as we prepare for what is the biggest challenge of them all.”

Ipswich’s promotion from the Championship last season means they will play in the Premier League for the first time since 2002.

“The leadership he [Morsy] has shown has been key in building a strong culture, which underpins everything we do,” McKenna said.

“I know Sam is excited to now have the opportunity to test himself at the highest level of the game.”

Ipswich host Liverpool on 17 August on the opening weekend of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
