Kieran Trippier wants Newcastle exit as Everton make approach

Before the transfer season shuts, Everton is interested in signing Kieran Trippier, who wants to leave Newcastle United this month.

The 33-year-old was added to the first team in January 2021 and played a pivotal role until the conclusion of the previous season, but things don’t seem to be going as planned this time around.

The right-back did not participate in Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Southampton last weekend; Tino Livramento took his regular spot on the field.

Bruno Guimaraes was named captain instead of Trippier, the team’s vice-captain, who was supposed to wear the armband on Saturday due to Jamaal Lascelles’ injury.

The Athletic report that Trippier is not interested in being a bit-part player at St James’ Park and is keen to move on this month to pursue first team opportunities elsewhere.

Everton have been quick to express their interest in signing the defender, who turns 34 next month, although they would be looking to do a loan deal.

Talks are underway but the Toffees will not be the only side interested in snapping up the man with 54 England caps to his name. There is certainly interest in him from the Saudi Pro League.

Speaking before the 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe suggested Trippier is in his plans, but he will be competing with Livramento for the right-back slot.

‘Physically, Tino is in a good place,’ said Howe. ‘He hasn’t had any issues through pre-season.

‘We believe in him, and really like his qualities and what he adds to the team. But he’s got serious competition in Kieran, and it’s going to be fascinating to see how those two players compete. They’re two top talents and two amazing characters.’
