Dwight Yorke points out Aaron Wan-Bissaka was a better player than the new arrival Noussair Mazraoui and that Manchester United should have continued to use him.

Erik ten Hag’s team has undergone several changes this summer, including the Red Devils’ decision to transfer right-back Wan-Bissaka to West Ham for a reported £15 million.

Mazraoui has joined United in place of Wan-Bissaka. The Morocco international cost £12.8 million, plus a further £4.3 million, after leaving Bayern Munich.

Yorke has called United “unprofessional” and is dubious about that specific transaction, fearing his former club committed a trade error.

‘Noussair Mazraoui has come in to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka but the way he was used at United was slightly unprofessional,’ Yorke told Lord Ping.

‘He is so good defensively and wasn’t used to his strengths. Mazraoui will give more going forward if you want someone overlapping.

‘But the most important thing is defending – and that’s what Wan-Bissaka was best at – so I would’ve stuck with him.

‘I don’t think Mazraoui is an improvement on Wan-Bissaka, who was treated unprofessionally at Manchester United.’

Wan-Bissaka was singled out for praise after helping West Ham defeat Crystal Palace 2-0 on Saturday, especially for his involvement in the first goal.

Arsenal legend and football pundit Ian Wright said: ‘Wan-Bissaka does fantastic here where he won that ball.

‘Kept hold of it, kept it going, a brilliant ball inside and from here, you are hoping they can clear their lines Palace. They can’t quite clear their lines.

‘Then there he (Tomas Soucek) just coming onto it and he just puts it into the goal. Really good goal and work there from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a former Palace player.’
