Federico Chiesa speaks out after Liverpool agree bargain deal

Federico Chiesa, a winger for Juventus, has agreed to join Liverpool for a ridiculously low fee of around €13 million (£10.9 million).

The only player the Reds have signed this summer is the goalie Giorgi Mamardashvili, a Georgian who will only join the team next year. The team has been incredibly quiet in the transfer market thus far.

Nevertheless, with the agreement to acquire the 26-year-old Italy international from Juventus, they have already accomplished a noteworthy acquisition.

Chiesa is in the final year of his contract at Turin, therefore Liverpool has reportedly had interest in him for some time. They have acquired him at a reduced cost.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the initial fee of €13m (£10.9m) has been agreed, although that deal does have add-ons to come.

Chiesa will move to Anfield on a four-year contract and the transfer is expected to be completed later on Wednesday in plenty of time before Friday’s deadline.

Chiesa told SportItalia, as per Romano: ‘I’m very happy, I can’t wait to become a new Liverpool player. Me and my family, we’re so happy really.

‘Let me say thanks to Juventus and the fans, they have been always special with me. Now it’s time for Liverpool, I’m so happy. I can’t wait!’

Liverpool’s next outing is in the Premier League on Sunday in a tasty trip to old rivals Manchester United, meaning Chiesa could get his first taste of England football at Old Trafford.

The former Fiorentina player’s injury record has been cause for concern over his career so far, but he did make 37 appearances for Juventus last season in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.

He also featured in all four of Italy’s games at Euro 2024 over the summer, starting three of them.

His most serious injury problem came when he damaged his ACL in January 2022 and missed the majority of a year, not playing in Serie A from 9 January until his return on 6 November.

Last season saw him start 25 games in the Italian top flight, with eight further appearances off the bench.
