Djordje Petrovic, the Chelsea goalkeeper, has agreed to join RC Strasbourg on a season-long loan contract.

The 24-year-old Serb made 31 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino last season but will leave after Chelsea signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal as his replacement last month.

Petrovic also signed a new deal with better terms at Stamford Bridge before moving to Strasbourg, a club controlled by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s parent firm BlueCo.

The Blues, who paid £14 million to buy Petrovic from the New England Revolution last summer, feel the move will benefit his long-term development.

The two-time Serbia international will help strengthen undefeated Strasbourg, now led by English manager Liam Rosenior, in France’s top flight.

Petrovic will be the third Chelsea player to join the club on loan, joining American defender Caleb Wiley and Brazil international Andrey Santos.

Chelsea also sold winger Diego Moreira to the Ligue 1 club earlier this month.

On Thursday, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga joined Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal.
