According to sources in Germany, Arsenal is keeping an eye on Leroy Sane’s situation at Bayern Munich.
After agreeing to a £42 million deal for Riccardo Calafiori on Monday, Mikel Arteta’s team is still searching for players before the summer transfer window closes.
It is said that Arteta is eager to recruit a versatile attacker, and Nico Williams, a great player for Spain at Euro 2024, is supposedly on the club’s shortlist.
Sane is also a target for Arsenal, who are ‘closely’ monitoring the winger’s circumstances at Bayern Munich, according to Sky Germany.
Sane, who joined Bayern in a £54.8m deal from Manchester City four years ago, has just a year remaining on his deal with the Bundesliga club and has yet to reach an agreement over an extension.
The report claims that Sane’s preference is to extend his stay with Bayern, however, Arsenal ‘sense a chance’ that a deal could be possible this summer, given that Bayern run the risk of losing the 28-year-old on a free transfer next year.
Sane already has a strong relationship with Arteta during their time together at Manchester City.
‘I was very happy to work with him. He helped me a lot there,’ Sane said of Arteta in April.
‘We had a lot of face to face conversations about how I can improve my game. I improved a lot because of his ideas, be it positional play or how I have to act in different situations.’
Arteta, meanwhile, revealed after Arsenal’s move for Calafiori that the club have already decided on their summer targets.
When asked what is next for Arsenal in the transfer market, Arteta said at his press conference on Monday: ‘Let’s see, we have to wait and see the movements in the markets.
‘We already identified things that we can improve, since we had the meetings in February, March, April.
‘If we can, we will try to strengthen the team in the areas that we believe we can get better. So far I’m really happy with what we have.’
Arteta says he is also ‘very proud’ that Calafiori was intent on joining Arsenal and rejected moves to rival clubs.
‘That was great when I spoke to him one or two times and I knew the other things and I wasn’t really sure whether we could do it [the deal] or not,’ Arteta said.
‘He was adamant, ‘let me know when you’re ready, my bags are ready and I just want to come to Arsenal’.
‘Those were his words and when you have that feeling and someone with that willingness to join us to make us better and that determination that’s something really powerful and I think as a club we should be very proud of that.’
