Aston Villa is hoping to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, which would be a major coup.
After having a falling out with the Atletico Madrid leadership, the 24-year-old spent the previous season on loan at Barcelona and the second part of the previous campaign at Chelsea.
The player and the club want to seek another move for him, whether it be a permanent or loan arrangement, because the relationship has not improved.
Felix’s newest escape from Atleti might come from Aston Villa, according to Radio Marca, who are convinced they can entice him back to the Premier League.
Unai Emery’s side finished fourth in the Premier League last season and will embark on a Champions League campaign in the forthcoming campaign.
The Portugal international, who has competed in the Champions League with Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Barcelona, would provide them with a wealth of expertise.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico is reportedly seeking for about Є60 million (£50.4 million), which would discourage Villa from pursuing a long-term agreement.
Another loan switch for the forward may be more likely, with a return to Barcelona another potential option.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta said earlier this year that he expected Felix to be at the club next season, but while that still could happen a deal for him is not a priority.
With Atletico favoring the Portuguese player’s move to the Premier League rather than a La Liga opponent, Villa now has the opportunity to sign Felix before any deal with Barcelona is completed.
Felix scored 10 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions during his last season on loan at Barcelona, which was respectable but not particularly noteworthy.
During his tenure, he failed to establish a spot in the starting lineup, making just 18 of his 30 La Liga matches as starters.
Felix wants a transfer completed before the beginning of August so he may avoid having to return to Atletico Madrid, since he must now return to his original club.
