The former Spain player led Como to promotion to Italy’s Serie A the previous season, and he has had a strong start to his managerial career.

Fabregas wants to sign Alfie Gilchrist on a loan to bolster his squad before the new season, The Athletic reports.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, the 20-year-old earned 19 appearances in all competitions and had a major breakthrough with the first team last season.

Gilchrist’s effect was so great that he became a cult figure due to his fierce and dedicated performances, which won him Chelsea‘s Academy Player of the Year title.

While Pochettino’s unexpected departure occurred last month, Fabregas visited Chelsea’s Cobham training complex, so he is fully aware of Gilchrist’s abilities.

“At times, it can be challenging to recognize or express a viewpoint when one is not present to witness the events,” Fabregas stated on the BBC Sounds podcast on the Planet Premier League. “Look, I really was there.” Ironically, I spent the weekend in London.

To begin with, I got along well with Mauricio. I always thought that he was a really lovely guy, a gentleman, when we played against them.

Two days before the season ends, on Friday [that he visited], I thought that they had won four straight games, so everything seemed to be going well and amusingly around the training ground ahead of the last game of the season.
