Caleb Wiley, a 19-year-old defender with “amazing talent” who excels in Olympic football and plays for Atlanta United, has officially joined Chelsea.
Gonzalo Pineda, his former manager and a big supporter of American international Wiley, who will compete in the Paris Games this summer, says as much.
Pineda remarked in May, “What I see from Caleb is this passion.” “Of course, his incredible talent, but also his maturity, passion, and energy in his game.”
Wiley will be joining Chelsea during the summer transfer window, the club announced on its official website on Monday.
‘Chelsea is pleased to announce the signing of United States international Caleb Wiley,’ the statement read.
‘The left-back joins the Blues from MLS side Atlanta United and has signed a six-year contract, with a club option for a further year, at Stamford Bridge.
‘Wiley joined Atlanta’s academy at 11 years old. He progressed through the club’s youth set-up and spent the 2020 and 2021 campaigns representing Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship.

Before the 2022 season, the 19-year-old joined Atlanta’s first squad, and he had a remarkable debut, scoring in a 3-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City.
“He would appear on twenty-five more times in his debut campaign.” Wiley made 36 appearances during the 2023 season after establishing himself at the senior level. In October of that same year, he earned his USMNT debut in a 1-1 tie against Mexico.
‘He has again been a regular for Atlanta this term, with 23 appearances made across all competitions.
‘Wiley is currently with the U.S. Men’s Soccer Team in Paris as they prepare to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games. Welcome to Chelsea, Caleb!’
The Olympic football tournament gets underway on Wednesday with the United States facing hosts France in their opening match.
France’s Olympic team is being managed by Arsenal and Premier League legend Thierry Henry.
