Chelsea make move for Filip Jorgensen who is keen on Stamford Bridge switch

Chelsea has made a “initial approach” for Filip Jorgensen of Villarreal as they try to get a new goalkeeper this summer.

Last season, Kepa Arrizabalaga was away on loan at Real Madrid, thus the Blues had Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez vying for the gloves.

They have made a move for Jorgensen, though, so it is obvious they are not satisfied with their goalkeeping alternatives.

Although a deal is still in the early stages, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano believes that a “initial approach” has been made to the Spanish club.

According to the article, Mads Hermansen of Leicester City is another target Chelsea has their eye on, despite Jorgensen’s expressed willingness in a trade.

Jorgensen, a 22-year-old who only started playing regularly for Villarreal last season, lacks much experience as a goalkeeper.

The goalkeeper was born in Sweden, where he earned youth caps for his own country. Later, he chose to follow his father’s path and joined the Under-21 Danish national team.

He made his La Liga debut in January 2023 and had a strong showing the following season, appearing in 36 games in the top tier of Spain and recording the most saves of any goalie in the division.

Villarreal are not keen to let their goalkeeper go and will demand a big price for him as he only signed a new contract with the club last month, with his deal now running until 2029.

It has already been a busy summer in the transfer market for Chelsea as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Marc Guiu, Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman and now Caleb Wiley have arrived at Stamford Bridge.

19-year-old defender Wiley is the latest to sign, with the arrival of the American from Atlanta United announced on Monday.
