After Crystal Palace, a Premier League rivals, started negotiations for Eddie Nketiah, the striker may yet depart Arsenal during this transfer window.
The striker for Arsenal looked to be getting close to leaving the Emirates with the completion of a £30 million contract with Nottingham Forest.
But that deal fell through over the weekend as Forest and the England international couldn’t come to an agreement.
Prior to Friday’s deadline, Nketiah is still drawing interest, with Palace being the most recent team to contemplate a move for the 25-year-old.
Oliver Glasner’s side are said to be long-time admirers of the forward and have discussed a move with the Gunners on several occasions in the past.
The Londoner made his senior Arsenal debut in 2017 with a brief spell on loan at Leeds United during the 2019-20 season.
He scored six goals in 37 appearances – just 13 of those starts – last season but played a peripheral role in the club’s title challenge, not starting a league match after a 2-1 defeat to Fulham in December.
Discussing Nketiah’s future at Arsenal after their win over Aston Villa on Saturday, Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports: ‘At the moment, Eddie is our player. He’s very committed to us.
‘Regardless of the noise, he’s here and he wants to be here with us. He’s really happy that we won the game.’
Any departure for Nketiah could leave Arsenal with just one senior striker – Kai Havertz – after the injury sustained by Gabriel Jesus in training last week.
The Brazilian has undergone MRI scans on the affected groin, with early reports suggesting the injury is not major.
Arsenal have made just one major signing this summer in Riccardo Calafiori but will hope to wrap up a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.
