Manchester United respond to PSG move for Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has been Manchester United‘s best and most important player since joining the club for £68 million from Sporting Lisbon in 2019.

The Portugal star, who played a major role in Roberto Martinez’s team that advanced to the quarterfinals at Euro 2024, is thought to be one of the most influential players in the English Premier League.

His form has not gone unnoticed, as several European clubs and powerhouses in Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in signing him.

However, Manchester United has played down rumors that Bruno Fernandes has emerged as a top target for Paris Saint-Germain this summer and reiterated that it would take a “huge offer” to persuade them to sell.

The 29-year-old was being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford towards the end of last season and while he insisted he wanted to stay, he also said the club had to match his expectations.

Fernandes wants to challenge for major trophies but Manchester United only finished eighth last season, meaning they will not feature in this year’s Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain could certainly offer Fernandes a shot at Europe’s top club competition, having won yet another Ligue 1 title last season while reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League before a disappointing defeat to eventual runners-up Borussia Dortmund.

Reports in France say PSG have launched a stunning move for Fernandes and intend to bring the midfielder and his United team-mate Jadon Sancho to the French capital this summer.

But ESPN say Manchester United remain relaxed about Fernandes’ future and believe the PSG links have been overblown.

They have also privately indicated that he would take a monumental offer to persuade them to sell a player who has been named Manchester United’s player of the year three times since he joined the club.

What has Bruno Fernandes said about his future?

In March, Fernandes said he ‘loved’ playing for Manchester United and wanted to stay, providing his ambitions are met.

‘I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream,’ Fernandes told the Players’ Tribune.

‘I just want my expectations to fit with the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing.

‘We want to compete for the league. We want to be playing Champions League football. We want to be in cup finals. That is the standard.’
