Marcus Rashford and Antony both hobbled off during Manchester United’s victory over Real Betis, adding to the team’s injury woes on their preseason tour of the United States.
Early on Thursday morning, Erik ten Hag‘s team defeated San Diego 3-2, with goals from Casemiro, Amad Diallo, and Rashford.
Rashford seemed to have injured his ankle just before the hour mark as Betis midfielder Sergi Altimira stepped on his right foot.
Before being substituted, the forward was injured for a few minutes. Later, he was spotted exiting Snapdragon Stadium with a minor limp.
Antony, who was substituted in at halftime as part of ten Hag’s flurry of substitutions, played just 23 minutes before being substituted, adding to United’s injury difficulties.
Exasperated, the Brazil international tore off his wrist tape and proceeded straight down the tunnel to receive treatment from United’s physiotherapist.
The announcement that £52 million acquisition Leny Yoro would miss up to three months of activity was quickly followed by the most recent setback. Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund will miss six weeks of action after both players were substituted during last weekend’s preseason friendly against Arsenal.
In just his second appearance for the club following his move from Lille, Yoro was forced off against the Gunners with a suspected broken metatarsal and was seen on crutches wearing a protective boot this week.
Hojlund, who impressively opened the scoring in that game against Arsenal, suffered a hamstring injury later in the contest.
United were beset by injury problems during the 2023-24 season with ten Hag laying the blame for their woeful Premier League campaign on those frequent absences.
Fresh blows could also accelerate their plans in the transfer market, following the signings of Yoro and Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee.
United are in talks to sign Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich having also seen two bids for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite rejected.
