The French champions Paris Saint-Germain are apparently seeking a sum of about £51 million, and they have reportedly rejected Manchester United‘s initial bid for Manuel Ugarte.
This week, United showed interest in the Uruguay international. With Casemiro due to depart Old Trafford this summer, the team is keen to add a new holding midfield player.
Ugarte rejected a summer transfer to Chelsea in favor of joining PSG in a slightly over £50 million deal.
Under Luis Enrique, he began the 2023–24 season as a regular but lost his spot in the squad during the second part of the year.
PSG are now thought to be open to offers for the midfielder with United making their first move.
According to sources close to the French champions, United’s initial bid was rejected as it was “much below” their value, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.
PSG is keen to recover the £51 million they paid Sporting Lisbon for his services last year, despite United’s assertion that so far just “exploratory talks” have taken place.
It remains to be seen whether United are willing to meet those demands. In any case, however, Ugarte is expected to leave Parc de Princes this summer.
This summer, United is reportedly planning to spend a relatively small £35 million on transfers, with the goal of raising additional money through player sales.
Jarrad Branthwaite, a defender for Everton, had an initial bid turned down by the club. The Merseyside team quickly turned down the offer, which was estimated to be worth £35 million plus a further £8 million. Everton values its valuable asset at £70 million.
According to reports, Branthwaite and his club have already reached a personal agreement to transfer to Old Trafford, but United hasn’t been able to convince them to lower their asking price.
United are in no rush to make an improved offer for the 21-year-old and are prepared to walk away from talks unless Everton are willing to negotiate.
