A late substitution of VAR officials for Rangers’ Champions League third round qualifying match against Dynamo Kyiv has prompted the Polish FA to launch an investigation after “reports of improper behavior.”
Prior to the game in Lublin, Poland, Uefa changed Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial to represent Poland.
Although Polish media has stated that police were involved in an altercation on the eve of the game, the two were slated to serve as VAR and deputy VAR for the match.
A statement issued by Uefa stated: “The College of Referees of the Polish FA will carry out a detailed analysis of the situation in connection with reports of improper behaviour of two Ekstraklasa [Poland’s top flight] referees who were supposed to work on the qualifying match between Dynamo Kyiv and Rangers.”
The substitute referees are also members of the Polish FA.
Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Kyiv’s “home” match is being played in Lublin, while the return leg will be played in Hampden next Tuesday because Ibrox’s renovations are still ongoing.
The winners of the tie will meet RB Salzburg or Twente in the play-off round.
