Takehiro Tomiyasu, an Arsenal star, will not be going on the team’s preseason tour of the United States; instead, he will stay in the nation’s capital to receive treatment for a knee ailment.
Prioritizing preparations for the next Premier League season, Mikel Arteta has his team scheduled to play Bournemouth, Manchester United, and Liverpool in the United States.
Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, William Saliba, and Davis Raya—all of whom advanced to the later stages of Euro 2024 with their respective countries—will not be participating in the trip.
Along with Kieran Tierney, who is recuperating from a hamstring injury sustained during Scotland’s Euro 2024 match against Switzerland, Tomiyasu has also been sent back to London to complete his therapy for a knee issue.
Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus are part of the 26-man squad heading for the US with Jurrien Timber, who missed almost the entire 2023-24 campaign through injury, also part of the group.
Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson have also made the trip despite their futures at Arsenal looking uncertain.
Nketiah is wanted by Marseille, who on Thursday confirmed the arrival of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. The Ligue 1 giants, now managed by Roberto de Zerbi, have lined up Nketiah as their next target with the striker thought to be keen on the move.
Fulham meanwhile saw their opening offer worth up to £30m for Smith Rowe rejected this week. Arteta used the attacking midfielder sparingly last season with Crystal Palace also vying for his signature.
Reiss Nelson meanwhile is wanted by West Ham United.
Arsenal begin their tour in Los Angeles when they take on Bournemouth on 24 July before taking on Manchester United on the 27th.
Their tour of the US concludes against Liverpool in Philadelphia on 31 July.
The Gunners take on Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon in final pre-season games at the Emirates before beginning their Premier League campaign against Wolves on 17 August.
