Newcastle United offered Anthony Gordon to Liverpool, but the Red Sox turned down the offer because they wanted Jarell Quansah to be part of the transaction.

It has been widely reported on Saturday that Newcastle made an offer to the Merseyside club for their star winger, in a shocking development between the two Premier League rivals.

Newcastle made an approach to Liverpool this week regarding the signing of Gordon, a former Everton player, which would have resulted in the transfer of center-back Quansah to St. James’ Park.

However, the Reds are not willing to let their youthful defense go. After establishing himself as a valuable part of the first team squad the previous season, Quansah was included in England’s provisional squad for Euro 2024 but was left off of the final roster.

Gordon, who joined Everton at the age of eleven and went through the junior system, departed Goodison Park in January 2023.

He enjoyed a superb 2023-24 season at Newcastle, scoring 12 goals and laying on 11 assists.

While he is admired by Liverpool’s recruitment team, the club are not willing to sacrifice one of their own young stars in Quansah to get the deal over the line.

Newcastle’s willingness to sell one of their key players comes amid their efforts to stay in line with the Premier’s Profit and Sustainability Rules – with an accounting deadline looming on Sunday evening.

Liverpool remain interested in signing Gordon with The Guardian reporting there is still a chance of another offer coming this weekend.

Gordon is currently with the England squad at Euro 2024, pushing for a role in the team when the Three Lions take on Slovakia in their last 16 match on Sunday evening.

Newcastle have also been approached by Chelsea over a move for star forward Alexander Isak with the Blues also looking to capitalise on the financial situation on Tyneside.

Chelsea allegedly pondered making a bid of over £100 million for the Sweden international, but Newcastle’s determination to hang onto the 24-year-old has chilled Chelsea’s interest.
