On Conor Gallagher, the situation Is pretty obvious and logical.
Takes a moment of reflection to see the thought process of both sides..
Chelsea are doing what they are doing for for the same reasons Gallagher is doing what he is doing.
To protect their interests.
First of, Chelsea are pushing to sell Gallagher purely because they don’t rate him. Just as I don’t. And obviously it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m on their side on this one.
If you remember clearly, at the time of the clearlake takeover, we lost two key players important to our defensive setup due to the recklessness of the past regime. Which brought about a manifesto from the new ownership which states, players entering the wee end of their contract will either renew or be sold.
Chelsea tried to sell Gallagher last summer but he refused to leave. Chelsea had a £57M offer from Aston Villa, a £55M bid from Newcastle, a verbal bid from Tottenham worth £40M, had a bid from Crystal palace too in the tune of €30M euros, all turned down. Cause starboy didn’t want to leave. This summer they have been trying to sell him again. They accepted an offer from Atletico worth around €40M and yet again he doesn’t want to leave.
Then, Chelsea seeing that all efforts have proven abortive, offered starboy a new short term contract to protect his value and once more, he has rejected. Which means Gallagher is on a campaign to ruin the party for Chelsea and Chelsea aren’t having it.
Gallagher wants to stay when the truth is…
He just doesn’t fit a possessive team.
Different parts of his game I critiqued last season and one of his major pitfalls is his – on the ball abilities.
The pecking order in the midfield has him currently sitting last or second to last only ahead of Ugochukwu and maybe Carney.
Gallagher wants to stay at Chelsea and he hopes that in an ideal world he could prove himself to the manager, but the technical directors responsible for squad planning believes he is not a fit and do not want to waste another season finding out what we all know to be true.
However, Chelsea are in a precarious situation and as a business, they are on a race against time. Gallagher is in his last year of contract, Chelsea has offered him multiple contracts on their terms, he’s rejected them.
So the question is, if you were Chelsea what would you do?
Allow a valuable asset leave on a free or force him out while you still can?
Also, If Gallagher was thinking of his future, he won’t stay where he is not wanted. It’s not like he is on any mega contract and needs to squeeze every last drop. He is on basic wages for a professional at a big club.
The signing of Drewsbury Hall was a signing of intent.
“We have replaced you”. It takes a less observant individual not to understand what that signing was all about.
Chelsea offered 3-years contract to him as accurately reported by Ornstein. So even if he wants to play hard ball with Chelsea, 3 years would have given him enough time to toy with their feelings, but he is ready to lose 1year of his career cause he wants to stay by all means despite knowing he will only end up a glorified squad player?
Oya nau…
